France: Loire: White: Chenin Blanc.
These wines are made in a variety of styles with the best being long lived and very stylish. It achieved AC in 1936 and it just on the Eastern point of Touraine.
Three different styles of Vouvray are listed below:
Sec: dry wines
Demi-sec: 'half-dry'. With a slight honey character, and a bit of sweetness on the palate.
Moelleux: Sweet wines. Some of the bets sweet wines of the world are made here.
Very good sparkling wine is also made.
Classic Names: Domaine Huet, Domaine Champalou can also be very good but tend to be in a lighter, more floral style, especially when young. Also look out for Marc Brédif, Chateau Gaudrelle, François Pinon and François Chidaine, a Montlouis viticulteur who has now taken over the running of the vineyards of Prince Philippe Poniatowski, including the noble Clos Baudoin
