Vinho Verde

Region

White, Portugal: Vinho Verde is on the Atlantic coast in a region called Minho North of Porto. They also do red wine though not much is seen outside Portugal (The reds are large and tannic). These wines are light, fresh with fruity aromas and a slight sparkle. This is due to Co2 and is not a fault!
Many different varieties are allowed in this area. Though Alvarinho is one of the main white wines, also used in Albariño from Rias Baixas, Spain.

Vines are trained on high pergola trellises and it was given DOC in 1984.
