Valpolicella
WineRed: Italy, Verona. A famed red wine made from a blend of local grape varieties; Corvina Veronese, Rondinella, and Molinara. Production is only second to Chianti. Most are light in body with red fruit flavours, easy drinking and will not keep. Those marked with Ripasso have slightly more body and complexity, perhaps with hints of mocha and chocolate. Amarone is the greatest expression of this wine made from dried grapes which concentrate the flavours. These will be full bodied, alcoholic, with flavours ripe black and red fruit, sweet spices with chocolate and mocha notes. The best will age well. These are off-dry and great with cheeses.
Areas are: Fumane, Negrar, Marano di Valpolicella, Pescantina, San Pietro in Cariano, Sant’Ambrogio di Valpolicella and Sant’Anna d’Alfaedo.
