This region is situated on the Adriatic coast in Italy's Southeast. The climate is a hot Mediterranean and the soils are calcareous. Life is relaxed Puglia and the wines can often reflect this in their rusticity - only around 2% of total production is classified as DOC. America's Zinfandel is thought to have originated in Puglia as Primitivo.
