Montepulciano - Tuscany

Region
Montepulciano, Tuscany, Italy is built on a narrow limestone ridge at 605 m above sea level. Antonio da Sangallo the Elder in 1511 fortified the town biulding great walls around it for Cosimo I. In the town itself the streets are crammed with Renaissance-style palazzi and churches, along with the tourists all looking for Vino Nobile wines. Many of the wines are stored under the town itself and the cellars are beneath many shops. With a clone of Sangiovese, they create a slightly fuller bodied wine, with more hints of violet. It is aged for two years in oak barrels and then spends at least two months in bottle before being released for sale.
