Montalcino

Region
Approximately 100km south of Florence, the town hilltop of Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy, has a warmer and drier climate than that of the more northerly Chianti zones. Brunello di Montalcino was first recorded here as early as the 14th Century. It is made from a superior clone of Sangiovese. The town produces wines of 14% alcohol and the Brunello di Montalcino is one of the most formidable and longest lived of all Italian wines. Due to much investment the consitancy of these wines are getting better and better. Other wines are Rosso do Montalcino which haven't been aged as long as their Brunello counterparts.
