Merlot
GrapeRed: A famed grape coming from the right bank of Bordeaux (St. Emilion and Pomerol) producing some of the most expensive, famous and long lived wines of the world. It is suited to heavy, damper soils as on the Bordeaux right bank.
The wines are full with fruit forward plum and rich. They are also available to drink a lot younger than its Cabernet counterpart, with which is often blended.
Merlot is a important part of many Bordeaux blends throughout the world and good single variety versions are made in the northern Italy, California and Chile.
Merlot in hot conditions can turn sluggish and flabby if not controlled properly and yields are generally high.
