Region
The Marche form the eastern side of central Italy. From narrow coastal plains the land rises sharply to the Apennines which form a natural boundary with Umbria and Tuscany to the west. This beautiful inland countryside is sparsely inhabited. Well known wines are the Verdicchio, which has a slight almond character and has a lightly more important sub region of dei Castelli di Jesi.
