Malbec

Grape

Red: This variety is almost black, and was once found in Bordeaux. It is now the main grape of Argentina, especially in Mendoza, although still finds a home in France’s appellation of Cahors, where is must make up 70% of the wine. Chile has also adopted Malbec and uses it with Bordeaux blends. In Argentina they are full bodied, with ripe dark fruits, with riper, softer tannins than the wines found in Cahors. Cahors wine are largely tannic when young and need cellaring to soften them before drinking the wine.

Other names: Cot, Auxerrois
