A spectacular region in the very North East of Italy bordered with Slovenia and Austria possesing mountains in the North with rivers that run through to the sea. It produces millions of litres of wine a year, mainly of the German market although has some very high quality mind producers around the Collio. The range of altitude, aspect and soil type is mirrored by the vast range of available varieties. Unusually for Italy, the result is a strong tradition for single varietal wine. It is famed for it's high quality whites and can even make fine Pinot Grigios unlike the ones seen on the UK market.
