Does this show why double magnum is a great wine to age wine. This Cru Bourgeois had a garnet rim showing some age but not looking 39 years old. On the nose, there was sweet red fruit, intermingled with a touch of blackcurrant, new leather, smoke, cedar wood, minerals and black pepper, and on the palette a fresh acidity, still a lot of tannin, a medium to full body, a good intensity and long finish. One of the stand out wines of this tasting. Drink now or will hold for 20 years.
Food Matching: Would go well with most full flavoured foods - rack of lamb, fillets of beef and haunches of game, mature cheese.
