Region
The start of central Italy with the Adriatic Coast, Emilia is in the West and Romagna the East, much of the wine region is grown on rich alluvial soils of the Po river. Home to Lambrusco, traditionally a dry sparkling red and completely different to the bulk of Lambrusco sold in the UK. Modern Sangiovese's coming from the southern sub Apennine on the border with Marche are starting to rival Chianti.
