Chianti Classico
RegionThe heartland of Chianti, Tuscany, Italy and the biggest sub region of Chianti. Defined as a wine producing region in 1716 by the Medici Grand Duke Cosimo III. The Classico area is centred around the towns of Castellina, Radda and Gaiole and stretches across to the hills of Spedaluzza. Historically the wines of Chianti Classico were made predominantly from the Canaiolo variety but through generations of experience Canaiolo plays a much lesser role, to the great Sangiovese. Modern wines add up to 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Minimum aging in oak barrels: 7 months
