Chianti

Region
Italy: Tuscany: Chianti is Italy's best known wine. Defined as a wine producing region in 1716 by the Medici Grand Duke Cosimo III, the area was extended in the early 20th century to allow greater production. After a period of decline the area has come back stronger with better and more consistent quality. Previously known for a straw bottle, Chianti is now more fruit forward and easy to drink at the bottom end with more sophisticated Chiantis being made in the Classico region, and in reserva style. The main grape used is Sangiovese.
Regions: Colli Aretini, Colli Fiorentini, Colline Pisane, Colli Senesi, Montalbano and Rùfina
